The very first blended whisky from the Akkeshi Distillery located on Japan's northern most island of Hokkaido. "Usui" is a blend of malt whisky distilled from locally grown two-row barley that has been aged no less than 3 years and imported new make grain distillate that has been vatted and matured exclusively in Japan. The malt spirits consists of roughly 60% of the blend and is matured in ex-bourbon, sherry, red wine & Hokkaido Mizunara oak casks. The grain distillate consists of corn & wheat and has been matured in ex-bourbon & red wine casks. 

This is the second release in their "24 Solar Terms" series which is inspired by an ancient lunar calendar utilized in Japan to assist farmers for hundreds of years. "Usui" loosely translates to "rain water" and typically starts around February 19th when warmer weather begins melting snow and ice. 

Rich & Fruity nose with hints of citrus, raisins & cocoa. Reminiscent of curacao on the palate with bright lemon, lime & orange notes. The finish has a milk chocolate sweetness blending perfectly with a white pepper spice.
