Taking in the 2018 Etna Rosso Cisterna Fuori reminds me of browsing the aisle of a candle and incense shop, and I mean that in the best way possible. Dried roses, violets, dusty cedar box, wax, hints of cinnamon and camphor all make an appearance. It’s silky with medium-bodied textures, giving way to a pure display of tart cherry and strawberry, lifted by brisk acids. This tapers off lightly structured with a twang of sour citrus and hints of hard red candies. While I’d prefer a bit more concentration, the Cisterna Fuori succeeds at being a very pretty expression of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio.
