 This is a crazy old-vine cabernet sauvignon from vines that were planted in 1964. It’s very perfumed with dried flowers, mushroom, barley and iron shavings. Medium to full body. Cashmere tannins. Succulent finish. Juicy. Hard not to drink it. Nostalgic and real. Organically farmed. No irrigation. Unique. Better in three or four years.

Vinous: 95 Points

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard is the most inward of the three DuMOL Cabernets in this tasting. Black fruit, herbs, menthol, licorice, gravel and incense lend notable intensity to a Cabernet of real thrust. The Montecillo is the sort of Cabernet that needs many years in bottle to drink well. When it does, readers should expect a wine with considerable mineral and savory presence.
