This wine is part of the growing collection of excellent single-vineyard contrada sites farmed by the talented Giuseppe Russo. His Girolamo Russo 2020 Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana reveals a luminous ruby appearance and elegant, lightweight concentration that is the hallmark style of this boutique estate. The wine is absolutely gorgeous, with extremely vibrant fruit that is framed by wild herb, white pepper, blue flower and candied orange peel.

This has aromas of salted plums, currants, five spice, tobacco and ash. Lots of flavor, with mouthwatering acidity and firm, chalky tannins. There's rustic minerality to this, with plenty of energy and length. Try in 2024.

Crushed strawberries, candied orange, sage and white smoke form a sweetly scented bouquet as the 2020 Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana blossoms in the glass. Soothingly soft and juicy in style, this excels with its energetic blend of minerals and ripe red fruits, all balanced by brisk acidity. The 2020 finishes long and floral, only lightly tannic, yet firmed up by a staining of primary concentration that tugs at the palate. This is irresistible already, yet also balanced for medium-term cellaring.
