Another 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in new oak, the 2016 The Albatross sports a deep purple color to go with its ripe, powerful bouquet of cassis, spicy oak, crushed flowers, and blood orange. It's full-bodied, has beautiful freshness, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish, with tons to love. It's a complete, balanced, totally satisfying Washington State Cabernet to drink over the coming 10-15 years.
Barrel fermented and aged for 21 months in 100% new French oak barrels, the 2016 The Albatross boasts a bold, vibrant and dense core of black fruit tones, blackberry essence, dark plum and dusty cherry skin, swaying out of the glass with impressions of spice and elegant oak tones. Full-bodied, the palate is chewy with a spicy line through to the mid-palate, showing a balanced structure with power and finesse. Lingering with a long and thoughtful finish, a bold blackberry jus flavor weighs on the palate with persistence and pleasure. Only 150 cases were made. It’s simply delicious.
Good medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, black raspberry, licorice, menthol, violet and oak-driven dark chocolate. More pliant and savory than a few of these 2016 red wines, offering nicely concentrated, slightly velvety flavors of medicinal black fruits, dark chocolate and menthol. Spreads out horizontally on the back end, finishing with substantial dusty, chocolatey tannins and a slightly aggressive quality. (15.5% alcohol)
