Powerful & serious on the nose. Dark & brooding. Purple & black fruit with gravel, green herb, & exotic spice. Secondary flavors of Kenyan coffee, sweet cream & stone. Baking spices of clove, vanilla & cinnamon from new French oak. As rich on the palate as the nose with smoke, tar, pencil shavings & cedar. Firm, grippy tannins with medium-plus acidity. Hugely structured & powerful with extremely long length. A Cabernet lover’s dream vintage.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a smashing success with an impressive array of red and black fruits on the nose with elements of spice and floral nuances that lift the experience to the next level. Wonderful expressions of dusty blackberry, cherry skin and baking spices compounded by aromas of pencil shavings, graphite and cigarbox sway with elements of red and purple flowers. Full-bodied, the wine explodes on the palate with succulent, dusty red and black fruit flavors before showing elements of dried herbs, elegant oak spice and youthful tannins across the mid-palate. The wine evolves over the long, lingering finish, showing complexity, precision and finesse. Give it a few years in the wine cellar before opening. Your patience will be rewarded. Bravo!
Deep, bright red-ruby. Complex musky scents of red- and blackcurrant, tobacco, pepper, mint and beef jerky. Plush, suave, round and mouthfilling; utterly seamless, airy, dry wine with a refinement of texture rare for Washington Cabernet. The suave tannins are totally buffered by the wine's fruit, and the whiplash of a finish builds slowly and inexorably. All in reserve today but impeccably made, well delineated and built for cellaring. I don't find quite the peppery thrust of the 2016 but this is wonderfully mouthcoating without leaving any impression of heaviness. And a bit sweeter and longer than the Cabernet Sauvignon and Gramercy Estates Red Wine, but still quite dry by Washington standards.
