With a red wax seal affixed to the front of the bottle, the Mastrojanni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit, dried cherry, iris roots, savory spice and crushed stone. The wine presents a classic aromatic profile for Sangiovese from Montalcino. The only distraction is the wine's high 15% alcohol content. Otherwise, the wine is silky and smooth with integrated tannins. This 70,000-bottle production is set up for near and medium-term drinking.
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with a savory and smoky mix of rich cherry sauce, wilted violets and grilled herbs. It’s round and almost juicy in character, with a potent wave of ripe red fruits and autumnal spice that leaves a collection of fine tannins in their wake. The 2018 finishes youthfully structured, with nuances of sour citrus and salted licorice that slowly taper off.
This has aromas of fresh black truffles, sour cherries, plums and smoked paprika. Full-bodied with weighty, ripe fruit and creamy tannins. Try from 2024.
