This intense nose of violet, dried rose petal and blackberry explodes from the glass with complex aromatics of smoked paprika, sage, ancho chile and cassis. The mouth is juicy and generous tinged with roasted hazelnuts, porcini and spiced plum and a granite minerality running throughout. –WINEMAKER LUISA PONZI
This has a very rich, fresh array of ripe dark cherries and a rose-hip and brown-tea edge. The palate has a very smooth, silky feel with layered tannins that deliver flavors of red-cherry pastry and long, fluid, pure cherries. Long finish. Drink or hold.
Saturated scarlet. Powerful cherry, black raspberry and cola scents are accompanied by smoky mineral and floral nuances that build as the wine opens up. Impressively concentrated yet lively on the palate, offering cherry-vanilla, dark berry and spicecake flavors that tighten up steadily and become sweeter on the back half. Smoothly plays power off elegance and finishes impressively long and juicy, with fine-grained tannins arriving late. 50% new French oak.
Rich and deep flavors of black cherry fruit are emphasized throughout. Aging 20 months in 50% new French oak adds a streak of vanilla; the toasty notes are there but restrained. An impression of a pillowy mouthfeel adds a suggestion of marshmallow also, which seems not at all out of place.
The 2017 Pinot Noir Avellana Vineyard, aged 20 months in 50% new French oak, has a medium ruby color and aromas of blackberries and red berries with notes of blood orange peel, underbrush and cured meats. Medium-bodied, the palate has dense, concentrated fruits with a grainy frame and good freshness, finishing long and über spicy. This could use another couple of years in bottle. 180 cases produced.
Shows refinement and structure, with sleek raspberry and green tea flavors that take on lively tannins and acidity toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2026. 185 cases made.
