A cool site with meager topsoil, Sechet is a cru that serves warmer years well, delivering tension and refinement. Very linear, showing typical Chablis character along with its vibrant acidity. Aniseed and mint with hints of toast and chestnuts. More delineated and voluminous than so-called classic vintages, but still pulls the saliva and tingles the tongue in readiness for the next glass. Excellent showing of this wine. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.
Deeper-pitched than the ethereal Preuses, the 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos exhibits aromas of ripe citrus fruits, peach, white flowers, beeswax, nutmeg and clam broth. Full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's textural and layered, with a deep and muscular core, concluding with a long, expansive finish.
The 2022 Chablis Les Séchets 1er Cru, due to be bottled in November, has a detailed, slightly nutty bouquet that unfurls with aeration but is perhaps the more bashful of Dauvissat's cuvées at this stage. The palate is beautifully balanced with touches of pistachio and yellow plum. It is a little spicier than the Village Cru, with a persistent and peppery finish. One goes away with the sense of a Chablis that will bide its time.
An airier and mildly cooler nose reflects notes of mineral reduction, white flowers and the hallmark citrus influences. The sleeker though not denser middleweight flavors possess a more refined mouthfeel as well as more evident minerality that seems to build on the bitter lemon-tinged, dry and sneaky long finale. Lovely stuff.
