A sleeping giant, the 2021 Ghirada Ocruarana takes its time in the glass, blowing off a bit of smoky reduction to reveal a blend of rosemary, sage, dried strawberries and ginger. This enters the palate with grace, soft and round. A salty mineral tinge up front adds traction as tart wild berry fruits slowly saturate. The 2021 finishes tannic, yet it is dusty and fine as hints of licorice and a slight balsamic twang fade gradually. Wow, a varietal Cannonau. Lose this in the cellar. What’s even more impressive is its 13.5% abv.
