The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is silky and fine with light tones of wild berry, blackcurrant, earth, spice and licorice. It shows the most elegant aromas associated with Nebbiolo, especially from the prized Cannubi vineyard with loose sandy soils (or Sant'Agata marl with fossils) that always lead to texturally delicate and complex wines. Fruit comes from a 1.3-hectare parcel with 40-year-old vines. Production is 6,000 bottles.
Aromas and flavors of dried cherries with some mushrooms and mildly spiced oak. Hints of pressed flowers and bitter orange rind, too. Medium to full body with firm, grainy tannins that carry a little vanilla. Very good quality here, but give it a couple of years, to allow the fruit to push all the way through the finish. Try from 2024.
