This perennial classic always seems to deliver. The 45th edition opens with aromas of baked apple, brioche, baking spices, crème fraiche, lemon zest and ginger. The palate backs it all up with ripe orchard fruits, lemon curd and persistent minerality, finishing with lively acidity. Santa Margherita USA.

Celebrating a big anniversary, the Ca' del Bosco NV Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige Extra Brut 45 Edizione is mostly Chardonnay with smaller parts Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco. It's a blend of vintage and reserve wines from 2020, 2019 and 2018, and it ages on the lees for 25 months to produce aromas of rich lemon and freshly baked pie crust. The beading is visibly very light and delicate, and the palate is too. This is a very gentle sparkler with medium-plus freshness.

Lemon, grapefruit, honey and saltines on the nose. Crisp and fresh, with a medium body and relatively gentle bubbles. Dry and crisp finish. Could do with more length. Drink now.
