The Bue Apis is produced exclusively from grapes Aglianico from a century-old vineyard located in the district “Pantanella” at about 1000 meters from the Taburno cellar. This testifies to the ancient vineyard presence of Aglianico the slopes of Mount Taburno. The vinification of grapes from it obtained, the so-called original clone Aglianico bitter, is one of the paths that the Cantina del Taburno has undertaken to highlight the extraordinary potential of this ancient grape variety.
Purple red colour. Blackberry and black currant aroma. Full in the mouth and well balanced, blended tannins and a long finish of toasted coffee, tobacco and spices.
The 2013 Aglianico del Taburno Bue Apis is a wine of large horizons and a big scope. The bouquet opens to generous tones of black fruit, distant cinnamon, tobacco and bitter chocolate. The mouthfeel is dominated by thick layers of concentrated richness and a solid tannic framework that keeps the wine neatly stitched together. I can't say that this vintage is technically perfect: There may be a distant touch of volatile acidity that adds to the sense of immediacy and buoyancy of the aromas. No matter, the results are very likable nonetheless.
