Both wines from L'Evangile showed beautifully. The 2020 Blason De L'Evangile is a more forward wine, offering terrific plum and darker berry fruits as well as classic Pomerol gravelly earth, chocolate, and leafy tobacco aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, it's as seamless as they come, with terrific balance and supple tannins. It will drink brilliantly for 15 years. The blend is 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc, brought up mostly in once-used barrels with 15% in tank.
A little austere, this is more concentrated than some years of Blason, with Cabernet Sauvignon that was particularly small-berried and intense going in here rather than the first wine. It unquestionably adds a gorgeous twist of personality and spice, and this is an excellent wine, with layered but supple tannins as it opens in the glass. 3.8pH, 5-10% amphora and around 50% to be aged in new oak. This site saw 37mm rain in the second half of August, after six weeks of almost zero rainfall, and they were the first in the appellation to harvest, on September 2, and finished up by September 14. 50% of production. A yield of 32hl/ha, in final year of organic conversion, so this next vintage 2021 will be certified.
The 2020 Blason de L'Évangile is a plump, juicy wine that very much reflects the extroverted side of the year. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, licorice, cloves and espresso are all dialed up. A racy, extroverted Pomerol, the 2020 Blason is a total pleasure bomb. This is the first time the Blason was partly aged in tank, a decision taken to maintain as much freshness as possible.
