The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has such a pretty nose that disguises the trauma of the growing season: ebullient redcurrant, white-tipped strawberry and light stony scents. The palate is taut and fresh, just the right amount of countervailing bitterness, with a lively finish. Just a lovely Gevrey.
Incorporating the domaine's holdings in Les Evocelles once again due to low yields, Bachelet's 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes bursts with scents of raspberries, peonies, plums, orange zest and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vibrant, with melting tannins and an enveloping core of fruit, it's a pretty classic in the making.
A more subtle application of wood sets off the cool and super-fresh aromas of both red and dark berries, earth and more prominent sauvage hints. I very much like the texture of the medium-bodied flavors primarily thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins supporting the suave yet tension-filled finale that offers better depth on the lingering finale. This fine Gevrey villages should repay 5 to 8 years of keeping.
