The 2021 Beaune Pertuisots 1er Cru includes one-third stems and has a complex, alluring, sous-bois tinged bouquet that unfurls gracefully in the glass. The palate is very composed, harmonious and silky smooth. The stems impart a subtle pepperiness on the finish. Wonderful. Beaune doesn't get much better.
Although slightly closed on the initial attack, the aromas open up on the palate to show a ripe plummy fruit with hints of leather and sage. The texture has a solid feel, with more density than most of the premier crus in this cellar, supple tannins, and good length. The grapes come from a half-hectare of vines in the southern part of Beaune at mid-slope as the vines stretch toward Pommard. One-third of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters before ageing with a modest proportion of new casks.
A strong effort from this lesser-spotted premier cru, the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Pertuisots delivers aromas of dark berries, raw cocoa, orange rind and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate with good tension and persistence.
This is also aromatically quite floral with cool and wonderfully pure aromas of red currant, cherry and a beguiling array of spice elements. Once again there is a lovely texture to the precise and vibrant middleweight flavors that culminate in a compact, youthfully austere and like Pertuisots typically has, a mildly rustic finish.
