Very classical aromas of toast, nuts and patisserie lead to a palate that's round and savoury with very attractive richness and complexity. Flavours of nuts, cream and candied fruits are given lovely balance, elegance, persistence and length by the wonderful acidity. Deliciously good - a serious fizz.
The latest rendition of the NV Brut Tradition Grand Cru was disgorged in July 2018, after 48 months sur lattes, and it's another brilliant offering from Francis Egly. Offering up aromas of mirabelle plum, beeswax, dried white flowers and rock salt, it's medium to full-bodied, pure but broad-shouldered, with racy acids, a fine mousse that will become still more elegant with further aging on cork and a dry, saline finish. As usual, dosage is minimal.
Chiseled acidity provides firm definition for this chalky Champagne, though it's swathed on the palate by a creamy range of flavors, including passion fruit coulis, toasted almond, blood orange sorbet and lime blossom. A streak of salinity races on the finish. Disgorged October 2020. Drink now through 2026.
