TedderSomm 99: This is the best of 4 Premiere Napa Valley Cabernets we bought and I double decanted this and let it breath for a few hours while I made my notes. The wine is inky, dark and brooding in the glass initially with loads of purple flowers, wild blackberries, black cherry, crushed mulberry, black raspberry liqueur, espresso bean, mace, crushed rocks and pipe tobacco. It reminded me a lot of a good vintage of La Mission Haut Brion with wonderful richness to the ripe blue, purple and black berry fruits as well as dried violets, hot stones, truffle and exceptionally powdery, supple, fine-grained tannins that are unreal! There is a clam shell note on the nose and great minerality and lift on the finish that frames the unctuous, ripe, heady personality of Thomas Rivers Brown’s Cabernet Sauvignons! This is the best 2017 I have tried and the vintage at this top notch vineyard in Yountville really will blow you away! The wine drinks on three levels with the ripe fruit and flowers at the front, tons of intensity, minerality, savory but sweet qualities in the middle and then a thunderous finish that shows off the impressive structure and killer French Oak this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sees. More roasted espresso beans, mace, cardamom, star anise, white pepper and anise show on the lengthy finish that goes on for over a minute with 2 hours in a decanter! This amazing tiny production Cab will drink well for 10-15 years from now and will impress the entire time! Killer vino!
