A smoky nose features notes of petrol, mineral reduction and super-fresh green apple scents. The rich and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors also flash a pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and sneaky long finish that is even more tightly coiled. This is potentially outstanding though at least some patience is strongly advised.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne is another success, exhibiting notes of white flowers, mint, crisp Anjou pear and vanilla pod, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and satiny palate framed by racy acids and concluding with a saline finish.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has an attractive nose with touches of slate and a slight fumé scent that complements the malic aromas. This gains precision in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp bead of acidity. A stem ginger note hides in the background, whilst the finish feels reassuringly persistent. This should age well in bottle.
