A pretty and nicely layered mix reveals notes of both red and dark raspberry, warm earth and distinct sauvage nuances. There is again a very lovely texture to the energetic and delineated medium weight flavors that possess fine richness before culminating in a chalky bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that exhibits excellent length. 2020 appears to be a particularly good vintage for the Taupenot Bel-Air.
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru has a slightly more savory bouquet with white pepper and clove aromas, fine mineralité and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with a little reduction on the entry, quite gourmand in style, fleshy and ripe towards the finish with touches of white pepper and Earl Grey. Maybe the La Riotte has a little more persistence?
