Of complexity and superior structure, balanced by an undeniable elegance, Ventaglio presents itself as the expressive summa of Cabernet Franc planted in the land of Bolgheri. The operations on the green and the harvest are exclusively manual, the treatments are reduced to the bare minimum and all agricultural practices are oriented towards full environmental sustainability and maintaining the vitality of the soils. The "shape of the wine" is a direct consequence of that of the vineyard. The "morning", "midday" and "evening" grapes are vinified together: their differences in terms of aromatic development, maturity and freshness add up, creating a wine that is more than its parts, a "collective natural ingenuity "In the round,
An absolutely beautiful red with crushed-blackberry, mushroom, fresh-herb and chocolate character. It’s full-bodied, balanced and creamy with super polished and ripe tannins and a fantastic finish of beautiful fruit. Love the precision and focus. 85% cabernet franc and 15% cabernet sauvignon. Already beautiful, yet will be fantastic in four or five years. Better in 2024.
This is the inaugural vintage of Tenuta Argentiera's newest monovarietal wine, a Cabernet Franc from a stunning vineyard that is shaped like a fan ("ventaglio" in Italian) positioned around a solitary oak tree that stands tall against a stunning view of blue seas and umbrella trees. The 2015 Ventaglio embraces that wide panorama with a span of aromas and black fruit flavors. Blackberry and plum cede to smoke, campfire ash, crushed mineral and wet river stone. Those delicate earthy tones add pretty framing to the opulent darkness found inside. To the palate, the wine is fleshed out and rich, but there is less focus here compared to the 2016 vintage that I also tasted during the same sitting.
