A spectacular result, with dark fruit showing a firm, pronounced mineral and earthy note. There is impressive intensity here, lots of tannic grip and extract, and a finish that goes on seemingly forever. Thibault Liger-Belair owns just over 2ha of Les St-Georges - nearly a quarter of the entire lieu-dit - at the centre of the appellation. The soil is deep clay, and there is a fault in the limestone in the middle which gives the soil a crystalline nature. The grapes are vinified with 40% whole clusters and will be given nearly two full years in cask (half new).
Leads with mint, menthol and smoky oak aromas, while flavors of blackberry and black cherry lurk beneath. Lacy and rich, with excellent harmony and a lingering finish of fruit, iron and spices. Shows terrific energy and length. Best from 2026
The 2021 Pinot Noir Richard Herman Cuvée is distinctly savory, with hints of sour citrus and wild herbs complicating crushed blackberries. Silky and refined with brilliant acidity, this smooths over the palate with ripe red fruits and sweet spices, taking on a chalky mineral sensation toward the close. It leaves a bitter twang, giving way to a sweet and sour sensation, along with silty tannins, as the mouth is left watering for more. The Richard Herman Cuvée is one of the most balanced and thoroughly enjoyable reds from the 2021 Double 00 lineup.
Brooding and equally reticent aromas are comprised by notes of cool floral, especially violet, dark cherry, spice and enough earth character to mention that continues onto the delicious, succulent and quite suave medium-bodied flavors that tighten up significantly on the somewhat chewy, even slightly grippy, finish that displays excellent depth and persistence. This too is going to need extended cellaring to reach its apogee as it's definitely built to age.
