Appassimento elements are strong here, for the ripasso is done over the skins of recioto with maceration for up to 60 days, depending on the raw material. Thereafter, the components are separated. Spontaneous yeast. Menthol, mocha, pine needle and dark macerated cherry elements. There is oak here (Slavonian only), a little new, nicely embedded into the rich fray, serving to promote the fruit rather than obfuscate it. This should make good old bones. Drink or hold.

This is juicy and round with vivid ripe red berries and minty herbs, along with violet and lavender florals. The finish is long and staining with round tannins that linger. For all of its sweet spice, the Valpolicella Classico Superiore is matured entirely in large Slavonian oak—what you smell is fruit.
