The 2019 Chianti Classico Nuovo is 100% old-vine Sangiovese aged in concrete. Bright and effusive, with striking aromatic presence, the Nuovo is an absolute delight. Nervy, persistent tannins and bright acids are a reminder we are in Radda. This mid-weight Chianti Classico has so much to offer. Bright red fruit, white pepper, chalk and dried flowers linger.
This is a special wine that takes the concept of an annata Chianti Classico to the next level. The appellation needs more wines like this. The Poggerino 2019 Chianti Classico Nuovo is sold in a fun bottle with a big old egg depicted on the front label. A certified organic Sangiovese, the fruit ferments in cement with ambient yeasts and ages in a 6.5-hectoliter Nomblot cement egg for one year. What you get is a lot of lively and punchy fruit with blueberry and dried raspberry. There is smoke and flinty mineral, and the wine is distinguished by fresh acidity and a mid-weight style. Production is limited to 4,900 bottles.
Super savory, featuring eucalyptus, rosemary, sanguine and cherry flavors underscored by a saline note. This has grip and freshness, with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2028. 400 cases made, 130 cases imported.
A cutting-edge annata that spends 12 months in 6.5hl concrete eggs, Nuovo is especially perfumed, displaying scents of strawberry jam, dried violets, balsam herbs, and a whiff of iron. It has a typically taut, vibrant palate, with clenching Radda tannins counterbalanced by luscious dark fruit. Pair it with steak or leave it to enjoy greater complexity in the medium term.
