Teddersomm97+: This inky, powerful Howell Mountain Cabernet stains the glass and spills forth with brooding aromatics of violets, black currant, blueberry, blackberry, wood smoke, espresso roast, pine forest, anise, thyme and sage. It is bold, rich, intense and powerful on the palate with more subtle dark minerals and burning embers that remind me of La Mission Haut Brion with its ripe black and blue fruits, dried violets, espresso and crushed rock notes. This is decidedly opulent Napa Valley Cabernet though with its opulent dark fruits, loamy earth, dark chocolate, bay leaf and sweet spices that are thunderous now with a structure that coats the palate! This powerful, driving Cabernet is loaded with Howell Mountain character on the long, layered mineral and black fruit driven finish. This beauty should age effortlessly in the cellar for 20 years and will blow you away now with a little over an hour in a large decanter!
